VMS StudentsThis page has been developed to serve my 8th grade Science students this year at VMS. On the left you will see a list of assignments (green), Labs (blue), Tests (red) and other activities (black) that we have done this quarter in our Science class.
Much of our science work is focused on FCAT and the Florida State Standards. I have linked next years 8th grade standards. This is the last year for the old standards. I only have access to print copies of the old standards (this years), as they are unavailable online. Materials Here!!!Below I will include files of readings on the materials we are studying in class.

Sample Rap song lyrics for Newton's 3 laws of motion:
1. There's no disputin' Sir Isaac Newton was one very brainy guy. He started thinkin' (It didn't take long), Soon he wrote three laws that make up this song: First was inertia, F equals m a came next and as we all know; Force and Reaction are equal always, In opposite ways they go. There's no disputin' Sir Isaac Newton Was one very brainy guy. He made up Physics, and Calculus too! No one was able his work to outdo. Motion and forces, and heat and optics, and gravity he explained. Science and Math he explained succinctly, and over them both he reigned!
2. The physicist will not insist
You learn the wizard’s potion
But minds will grow if students know
Of Newton’s Laws of Motion
Isaac Newton studied forces
Forces make things start and stop
Students taking science courses
Learn these laws to stay on top
Things in motion stay in motion
Things at rest will stay at rest
Inertia’s our initial notion
Know it and you’ll past the test
We’re laying down the law
We’re laying down the law
We’re laying down the laws
Of motion
The next law’s also worth a mention
So wisdom will accelerate
Although I sense your apprehension
A speedy lesson is your fate
With your elbow, wrist and shoulder
Here is how you must proceed
Throw a ball and throw a boulder
Greater mass means lesser speed
We’re laying down the law
We’re laying down the law
We’re laying down the laws
Of motion
One last law we’ll be explaining
Says forces always come in pairs
Newton’s law will leave you straining
When you’re climbing up the stairs
Each step you take is called an action
Push a wall, it pushes back
When you act, expect reaction
Equal and opposite, that’s a fact
We’re laying down the law
We’re laying down the law
We’re laying down the laws
Of motion
Possible songs for instrumentals:
If fought the law and the law won
Ice Ice Baby
gummy bear
peanut butter jelly
I'm a barbie girl
Girls just wanna have fun
