One shuttle launch remains on June 28th at 3:48 p.m. If the sky is clear I will be taking my 6th period class out today to see if we can possibly see anything to the East. I have seen the shuttle plumes from our front parking lot before. This is the end of an era. The 3 shuttles will be retired to museums nationwide. http://www.nasa.gov/ For this week, all labs are visible via promethian software via "Introduction to the Microscope Flp" 5/2: Introduce Microscope usage, Intro to Microscope lab, 5/3: Introduction to the Microscope Lab, Creating a wet mount slide Lab Students were to create two wet mount slides and properly draw and label two specimen on low and medium power 5/4: Substitute- microbes reading work 5/5: Plant cell lab (onion cells)worksheet- and Immunology lab- Experiment Comparing Bacteria present after different types of hand washing by growing bacteria on beets in petri dishes 5/6: Quiz Microscopes, Immunology lab observations 5/9: Evolution video (use N# and pin click here- bill nye "evolution") 3 questions answered for classwork, Cells notes taken- see attachment "Cell Types edit flp" for a copy 5/10: Animal Cells Lab (Copy at "introduction to microscope" flp) 5/11: Body Systems: Interactive Body Jigsaw (below) 5/12: Jr. Achievement periods 1-4, Body Systems activity period 5-6 5/13: RAFT on Body Systems 5/14, VMS DAY WITH THE RAYS 5/16: RAFT Body Systems 5/17: Classification shoe lab and Work on Board Game planning 5/18: Dissection overview and Fan-n-pick discussion activity (algebra exam). 5/19: Frog Dissection 5/20: Complete Frog Dissection lab sheets, Semi-Formal 8th grade dance 5/23: Classification Lesson 5/24: 7 min- Democratic Bees, Classification of random objects using a dichoto. key, and binomial monmenclature, Classification Video, Classification Quiz 1. (25 min) 7 min, plus reading and writing a response a. Listen to the MP3 about democratic Bees (see zoology link or MP3 file) b. Write a response to the following question: The bees described by Dr. Tom Sealy vote for where they will have their new home. This animal behavior is the result of natural selection. Read pg. 634, 636 and 637 in the blue textbook. Why do you think Natural Selection developed this trait in bees? Why do you think humans don’t have this same genetic instinct for consensus as a group? Why are humans so much more independent? Or are they? 2. (10 min. )(this may be difficult to do since we are doing it in class as a lab) Take out 6 random objects from your packpack, or in the room. I have each student a "mystery box". Create a dichotomos key like Dr. Ignotitus did yesterday in class with the shoes. Remember to have decision split into two parts, one with the characteristic and the other without the characteristics. When you are finished, have another person follow the key to see if they can correctly identify each object. 3. (23 min. ) Take the Safari Montage quiz below while viewing the video “Animal Classification” Video: Quiz: 5/25: Work on game project in class (National Guard Outing) 5/26: finalize game project 5/27: Game project due, Return textbooks to media center 5/30: no school 5/31: Play Game projects, 6/1: Water and Sanitation "Real Life problem solving" lab and 5th and 6th period Reptile presentation 6/2: Lab and clean up 6/3: 8th grade class trip: bowling and pizza (return permission slips prior), and yearbook distribution and signing Students not attending (including students without returned textbooks and media center books wil be with Mrs. Cuervo-Hoeper) 6/6: 8th grade class Promotion (A.M) |
